Every Mum knows that half hour of time just before picking the kids up from school. The half hour where you gather yourself mentally and emotionally for the post school run of homework, sports & activities and then dinner.

Often it’s a time of day when we are tired. We’ve worked or run around or looked after little ones and really we could do with an afternoon nana-nap instead of ramping into high gear. I used to rely on a cup of coffee to get me going. But more than a cup of coffee  a day gives me an upset tummy & the jitters. Besides, research shows that caffeine later in the afternoon is not good for restful sleep patterns.

Then I was introduced to this little trick and I use it ALL the time- as in every single afternoon. In each oil class I take I show women this trick and we try it out in the class. And every time without fail the energy levels in the room go up. I call it “mother’s little helper” and no, it’s not a gin & tonic! It’s two oils- Lemon and Peppermint. These oils used together are a natural energy boost.

Lemon is the Oil of Focus and will help you zone in and mentally prepare for the school run. Lemon helps with stress levels and moves you from scattered to focused. It is uplifting and refreshing.

Peppermint is the Oil of a Buoyant Heart and I love that. I want to be happy to see my kiddies at the end of the school day despite what the rest of my day may have looked like. Peppermint raises your alertness and gives you a pep in your step. It moves you from sluggish to invigorated.

So how do you use them? Put a drop of each into your palms and rub your palms together for a moment. Then cup your hands over your face and breathe in deeply a couple of times. Make the breath out longer then the in breath- this is very calming. Then rub your hands on the back of your neck.

I keep my Peppermint & Lemon oils on my desk within easy reach. The easier you can make your oil rituals the more you will use them and for me that means I need to see my oils x
